Selfies is an integral part of every comment on smartphones as they are an integral part of our daily lives. Nevertheless, we occasionally pick up a few phones and do a special selfie shot and it's time for one of these.

The previous edition was entirely focused on video with front cameras. Then we discovered that it is very difficult to find a smart selfie video recording device. One of the reasons we have done this article is to find out if there is a leap in this area two years later.

iPhone 5 is a smartphone which is designed and marketed by Apple Inc. This is the 6th generation smartphone after the succeed of iPhone 4S prior the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. It was released on 21st September 2012. The iPhone 5 is the first iPhone announced in September and, with a trend for the next versions of iPhone, the first iPhone fully developed under the direction of Tim Cook and the last iPhone supervised by Steve Jobs.

The iPhone 5 contained major design changes from its predecessor. These include a thinner and lighter aluminum housing than previous models, a larger screen with an aspect ratio of almost 16:9, the Apple A6 chip system, LTE and Lightning support, a new compact dock connector that replaced the 30-pin design used by older iPhone models. It was the second Apple phone with its new 8 MP camera made by Sony, which was first introduced on the iPhone 4S.

Apple started pre-orders on September 14, 2012 and more than two million were received in 24 hours. Described by Apple Inc as "extraordinary," with pre-orders sold 20 times faster than its predecessors. While reception on the iPhone 5 has generally been positive, consumers and critics alike have noticed hardware issues, such as an unintentional purple tint in photos taken and the phone's coating likely to collapse. Reception was also mixed with Apple's move to a different design for the dock connector, as the change affected the compatibility of the iPhone 5 with accessories that were otherwise compatible with iterations of previous line.

The iPhone 5 was officially abandoned by Apple on September 10, 2013 with the announcement of its successors, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. iPhone 5 has the second shortest lifespan of any iPhone ever produced with just twelve months of production, and breaks Apple's standard practice of selling an existing iPhone model at a reduced price with the release of a new model. This was broken by the iPhone X which was only in production for 10 months from November 2017 to September 2018; and connected to the iPhone XS which was twelve months old from September 2018 to September 2019.

It was replaced as a mid-range then as an entry-level model by the iPhone 5C; the internal material specifications of the 5C are almost identical to the 5, but with a cheaper polycarbonate exterior. The iPhone 5 supports iOS 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10. iPhone 5 is the second iPhone to support five major versions of iOS after iPhone 4S.
